On Thursday 23 November, over 70 young professionals and mature students studying business at Burton and South Derbyshire College attended the launch of the Meet the Leader series.
This event series, organised by Burton and South Derbyshire College, Else Solicitors and the Burton Mail, is aimed at employees in the early stages of their careers and those aspiring to become business leaders.
The guest speakers for the evening were Ben Robinson, Chair of Burton Albion Football Club, and the team’s manager and former England striker, Nigel Clough. During the hour-long Q&A session, attendees heard from both Ben and Nigel about their careers on and off the field, the people who had influenced them and how they themselves had developed into leaders. They both shared experiences and tales from their careers, as well as practical advice for the aspiring leaders in the room.
Chris Else, Managing Partner of Else Solicitors in Burton on Trent, said “It is encouraging to see young people enthusiastic about developing their leadership skills and listening to two of our great local leaders. It is vital that the next generation develops the strong leadership skills needed to take Burton forward in the future and Else are delighted to be involved in this innovative collaboration.”.
For those who missed the launch, the Burton Mail published a feature on the event, including a transcript of the interviews, on Tuesday 28th November.
The next event Meet the Leader event will take place from 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday 25th January at The Mulberry Restaurant, Burton & South Derbyshire College. The guest speaker is Helen Scott-South, Chief Operating Officer at Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
